Children’s Summer Reading Challenge (Ages 4 and Under)

Engage in early literacy activities with your child, attend programs, submit book reviews, and your child will win free books and chances to win prizes! Here’s how:

From June 13th through August 3rd, stop by the Children’s Library to pick up an Early Literacy Sheet, or print the current week’s activities from home! Once the Summer Reading Challenge begins, you’ll be able to find the current week’s activity sheet here on this page. For now, click here to view a sample! These activities that are easy things that you and your child can do together as you go about your daily life, such as naming things you see in the supermarket, singing songs together, and checking out and reading books from the Library. All of the activities support the development of your child’s early or pre-literacy skills.
For each completed Early Literacy Sheet you bring back to the Library, we’ll give your child a raffle ticket for the weekly prize drawing as well as a coupon for a free book. Your child will also get a sticker to add to our giant wall mosaic!
Participate in William Jeanes Library programs! Between June 16th and August 7th, for every week you bring your child to one or more of our programs, we’ll give your child a coupon for a free book. Can’t make it to the Library at the times we offer programs for little ones? Click here for more than 100 virtual William Jeanes storytimes to enjoy at home! Engaging with your child while watching a virtual storytime with them will count as program attendance!
Weekly raffle winners will be drawn every Monday at 12:00 noon between June 22nd and August 3rd. After each weekly drawing, all raffle tickets will be moved to the grand prize drawing bucket.
To “complete” the summer-long challenge earn an extra grand prize raffle entry, simply complete an Early Literacy Sheet each week for all 8 weeks. Completed Early Literacy Sheets can be submitted to the Library through August 12th at 4:00.
Prizes, free books, and stickers for our giant wall mosaic will be available only at the Children’s Library (no shipping)!
- Winners will be posted in the Children’s Library and will notified by phone or email.
- Winners of raffle drawings will be given the opportunity to select a prize. Prizes will be on display at the Library throughout the summer.
- Readers who earn free books will be able to select the books of their choice from hundreds of prize books available at the Library.
The Week 8 winner and the Grand Prize winner will be drawn on Wednesday, August 12th at 4:00 p.m. The grand prize winner will have their choice between a 24″ Squishmallows® plush green frog, a Bluey Ride-On Car, a Chatter Splatter gift certificate, or a Yoto Player.
