Children’s Summer Reading

Win free books and chances to win prizes, just by reading or engaging in early literacy activities and attending programs!

From June 13th through August 3rd, stop by the Children’s Library to pick up an Early Literacy Sheet or a Summer Reading Log! For each completed Early Literacy Sheet you bring back to the Library, or for every week that you’ve met your personal reading goal, you’ll receive a raffle ticket for the weekly prize drawing and grand prize drawing as well as a coupon for a free book. You’ll also earn a free book coupon for every week (between June 16th and and August 7th) during which you participate in one or more William Jeanes programs.

Weekly raffle winners will be drawn every Monday at 12:00 noon between June 22nd and August 3rd. The Week 8 winner and the Grand Prize winner will be drawn on Wednesday, August 12th at 4:00 p.m. Winners will be posted in the Children’s Library and will notified by phone or email.  Prize options will be displayed on top of our bookshelves. After each weekly drawing, all raffle tickets will be moved to the grand prize drawing bucket. To “complete” the summer-long challenge and earn an extra grand prize raffle entry, simply meet your personal reading goal each week or submit an Early Literacy Sheet each week for all 8 weeks.

We have two Summer Reading Challenge options for children and one for teens (6th-12th grades). Children from birth through age 4 will most likely do best using Early Literacy Sheets, and children ages 5 through 11 should consider using a Reading Log. Children who have just completed 5th or 6th grade may opt for the Children’s Reading Challenge or the Teen Reading Challenge. Click on the options below to help you and decide which is most appropriate depending on your child’s age, particular interests, needs, and personality.

In the center, the words "UNEARTH A STORY" are printed in large orange and green letters with a blue cartoon dinosaur to the right and the words "BIRTH THROUGH AGE 4" printed in large blue lettering to the left.

On the left, the words "AGES 5 TO 11" are printed in large bright pink lettering. To the right of these words, the words "UNEARTH A STORY" are printed in large blue and bright pink letters. Framing these words are two cartoon dinosaurs reading. One is in a tree and the other is on the ground next to a stack of colorful cartoon books. There is a backdrop with hills and mountains in various shades of light green.

The background is black and there is a large dragon eye close-up in the center. To the right, the words "UNEARTH A STORY" are printed in large orange and green letters with a small blue cartoon dinosaur reading under the letter "H." To the left, the words "GRADES 6TH THROUGH 12TH" ARE printed in large green lettering.
