Improved Searching with Discovery Service–Available Now!
The Montgomery County Libraries have joined together to offer you access to the EBSCO Discovery Service–an enhanced SEARCH tool that allows you to dive deeper into all of the fantastic resources our libraries offer!
From the homepage of our website, click on the magnifying glass in the upper right-hand corner. A new drop-down window will appear offering you two choices: Catalog Only or Everything.
If you prefer to search just the catalog, the way you always did, click that tab and enter whatever you’re looking for in the Search box. You’ll be taking to the relevant page of results in the MCLINC catalog, just like you’re used to seeing.
If you would like to see more about a particular subject, like genealogy, click the EVERYTHING tab, then enter genealogy in the Search box. You’ll be taking to a new page in EBSCO that will link everything in the regular catalog, plus everything in any of the databases the libraries subscribe to. You’ll see recent articles on genealogy research, video clips, related photos, and e-books you can download in PDF form for keeps! Related library events will also appear. On the right side are links to other resources like our digital magazines, Mango languages, Booklist reviews, and online video book sites like Tumblebooks. One stop searching!
See something you want? Click “Find It” to place a hold on the item from any of the local libraries. Or, if you want to save an article, create an EBSCO account in the upper right-hand corner and store all of your articles there for future access.
For the serious researcher, there’s the usual filters for peer-reviewed and scholarly texts, as well as those very helpful citation links!
The State offers us plenty of free information through their databases–historic photos, research articles, newspaper archives, etc.–and now it’s all in one searchable place.
Of course, there’s a ton to see and do on the site. If you’d like some guidance, please contact our Reference Librarian, Adam Gilbert-Cole, to make a free appointment to sit down and go through the site in detail.
