This week we’ll be writing self-portrait poetry, led by Robin Gow (it/fae/he & él y elle). If you’ve ever tried to take a picture of yourself you know there’s a lot of different angles you can capture. Self-portrait poems delve into those aspects and facets of our identities, our history, and our understanding of “self.” They can be celebrations, inspections, and even sometimes critiques. In this class we’ll talk about two different approaches to writing self-portrait poems through reading and discussing examples and then we’ll start drafting some of our own.
Robin Gow (it/fae/he & él y elle) is a poet, educator, and witch. It grew up in rural Pennsylvania and lives with his queer family on unceded Lenape land also called Allentown Pennsylvania.
