Due to the weather forecast, this event has been canceled. In the spring, be sure to keep an eye out for a program at the Library around the April 8, 2024 eclipse!
Families with children ages 5 and up are invited to join us for a special program to celebrate, learn about, and witness the partial (25%) solar eclipse happening on this very day!
Our program will begin inside at 12:15 (upstairs in the Large Print area), where we’ll learn a little bit about eclipses and all participants will receive a pair of eclipse-viewing glasses to keep. Then we’ll head outside for some fun, hands-on activities related the eclipse, the sun, and shadows.
We’ll be sure to stop in time to put on our glasses and catch a glimpse of the eclipse at it’s maximum at 1:21 p.m. Everyone is welcome to stay as long as they like to witness the progression of the eclipse through to the end at 2:38 p.m. We’ll have some activities that can be done on your own during this time if you’d like to stay and check on the progress but need to break up the time during the last hour of the eclipse.
Since we can’t schedule eclipses around our human meal times, and we understand that this event is happening during lunch time for many families, we welcome you to pack a picnic lunch to enjoy outside before the program begins or once we all move outside between 12:30 and 1:00.
You can even request to pick up your glasses the day before, or anytime prior to the program, if you’d like to catch some of the beginning of the eclipse, which starts at 12:05 p.m.
Registration is required.
