This workshop is for children who have completed 3rd, 4th or 5th grader and takes creative play as a way to spark creative writing. Each workshop will start out with theatrical games and exercises to engage learners’ creativity and imagination. The second half of the time will be spent writing based on what comes up during the games and exercises. Learners are encouraged to write in various forms from plays to monologues, short stories to poems, and beyond. This workshop supports the creative process and social and emotional learning.

Carly L. Bodnar is a Philadelphia based screen and stage director, teaching artist, coach, and performer. Carly is certified in youth mental health first aid. Her teaching practice is based in trauma/consent informed training that promotes empathy, communication, confidence, awareness of the body, mind, and voice as well as social and emotional learning. She has taught with Sawubona, The Wilma Theatre, Philadelphia Young Playwrights, Lantern Theater Company, Philadelphia Theatre Company, Theatre Horizon, Walnut Street Theatre, and Delaware Theatre Company. She has spoken at Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School through the McCarter Theatre Center, at the PA Thespian Conference, University of the Arts, and led workshops for the ESU National Shakespeare Competition.
