Read Across America Open House

Thursday, March 2, 2023 @ 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm EST

Read Across America‘s 2023 theme is “Bring Communities Together,” and it has inspired the Colonial Education Association to sponsor ways for students to get involved that reach out into the Colonial Community. When people make the time to read with children, children get the message that reading is important. For this special event celebrating reading and community, local elementary school teacher Ms. Munn will be at the Library from 4:30 – 5:00 p.m. volunteering her time reading to Open House visitors and helping motivate kids to read and celebrate the diversity in our community and our country.

Stop by the Community Room any time between 3:30 and 7:30 for snacks and a grab-and-go craft, and be sure to visit at 4:30 to hear Ms. Munn’s storytime! No registration required.

Launched in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA) and guided by a committee of educators, NEA’s Read Across America is the nation’s largest celebration of reading. This year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources that are about everyone, for everyone. The titles and resources featured by NEA’s Read Across America include books that students can see themselves reflected in, as well as books that allow readers to see a world or a character that might be different than them. There is room in our community for all readers, and readers who feel included, recognized, and a part of the world are engaged readers. The world—and books—are filled with many different kinds of people. Getting to know them is interesting, exciting, and fun!
