Picture Book Club: Miss Moore Thought Otherwise
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Book clubs aren’t just for grown-ups! In fact, no grown-ups are allowed at this book club just for school-age kids! This summer is all about building a better world, so we’ve selected some great titles about real people (some of them children!) who have done something amazing to make the world a better place. Children entering grades 2-5 are invited to join us for a lively book discussion and snacks.
This week’s book is Miss Moore Thought Otherwise, written by Jan Pinborough and illustrated by Debby Atwell. Once upon a time in America, children could not take books home from the library. They could not even walk into many libraries. They were not allowed. Back then, adults thought that children would ruin the library books with their dirty hands and would never remember to bring them back. Adults thought that reading wasn’t very important for children, especially not for girls. But Miss Moore thought otherwise. In fact, Miss Moore thought that children deserved a room of their own, story hours, and borrowing privileges to hundreds of the best children’s books in many different languages.
